We spoke with a man who said he knew Whitney in Rostov. He arrived in Houston on Wednesday and is staying with a friend of his father's. He called while we were out so we called him back after we got home. Whitney's dad was able to get in touch with the Bishopric in the ward nearest to where he is staying. They were going to make sure he got to church ok and to see if they could help out with anything. We were thinking of inviting him over for dinner. I'm assuming he was in Whit's ward. He sounded like a nice person, said he had gone to school in Russia for 6 years and was an environmental engineer. My husband didn't think he knew very much about how to get a job, find an apartment, etc. He is in a good place though ...the ward he is in has the largest group of people who have immigrated from Africa, which is where he is originally from. A couple we know really well have a calling to help these imigrants figure out how to get settled and integrated into our country and church.

hmm, that's interesting. I bet that was cool to talk to someone who knew her in Rostov!
So did you get the long email that she was talking about?
Arrggghhhh!!! No, unfortunately we didn't get the long email ...just the short whimpy one. I was really looking forward to hearing from Whitney too. Now I feel like I want to go and cry -literally!
I keep telling Whitney she has to be careful with what she writes. Otherwise she will upset the KGB and they will send her emails off into cyber space and we'll never get to read them!!! They don't want her sharing any of their countries secrets with us.
It sounds like she didn't really know the guy that called us but it was still interesting to hear from him. We were wondering why he ended up going to Russia for his education before coming to the U.S.??? Maybe we will get to meet him and he will tell us his story.
Well I guess that's it. Bye for now ...as we begin another long week of counting down the days, waiting for another exiting letter from Whiteroo!
